Teachers Saving Children® Inc. - National, hereinafter called Corporation, is an organization of pro-life individuals who are associated with the education profession.  The Corporation's primary purpose is advocacy for all innocent human life from conception to natural death.  The principal focus of this advocacy shall be especially among professional educators.

In the late 1980s, a New Jersey teacher had the vision of starting a pro-life organization of educators dedicated to the purpose of changing the National Education Association's (NEA) position on abortion. Out of the growing concern of several Ohio pro-life educators the Teachers Saving Children® Ohio Chapter was officially organized in February 1991. Miss Connie Bancroft serves as the Executive Director for the Ohio Teachers Saving Children® State Chapter.

On September 17, 1994, the Ohio Chapter Teachers Saving Children® Board of Trustees passed a resolution to form a Teachers Saving Children® - National Corporation. In the summer of 1995, the process of incorporating the new Teachers Saving Children® National organization was completed making it possible for other states to form affiliate state chapters under the national umbrella. After working with individuals in Pennsylvania for about a year and a half, the National Teachers Saving Children® Board of Trustees on March 1, 1997, approved the Pennsylvania State Chapter affiliation. Then on October 31, 1998, the National Teachers Saving Children® Board of Trustees approved the Michigan State Chapter affiliation.  In April, 2013, the Board of Trustees approved changes to the Constitution & Bylaws which eliminated State Affiliate Chapters and expanded the National Board of Trustees to a maxium of 15 members, with a minimum of no less than 7 members.  These changes were effective September 1, 2013.  With the elimination of State Affiliate Chapters, the hope is that the National Board will be overseeing a growth of local and regional informal, "grassroots' committees who will be engaged in local pro-life educaional activities.

The need for an organization such as Teachers Saving Children® is vital in today's society. Even if one does not belong to the NEA or the AFT, these national unions represent the educators of America. The NEA is the largest teacher's union in the nation as well as the world's largest democratic deliberative body--larger than the Democratic and Republican national conventions combined. It is also one of the most influential lobbying organizations in the nation's capital on issues that affect the teaching professional and the children in their care. The NEA is also involved in the social agenda, including the abortion issue, and is one of the primary advocates of Planned Parenthood. They co-sponsored the pro-abortion rally in Washington DC in November 1989, April 1992, and again in April 2004.

Resolutions represent the philosophy of the organization and thus become policy. Each year the NEA reaffirms its pro-abortion position by approving Resolution I-12 that was adopted in 1985, amended in 1986, and replaced a similar 1978 resolution. Resolution I-17 (formerly I-12, I-13, and I-15) reads as follows:

"The National Education Association supports family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom.

The Association urges the government to give high priority to making available all methods of family planning to women and men unable to take advantage of private facilities.

The Association further urges the implementation of community-operated school-based family planning clinics that will provide intensive counseling by trained personnel." (emphasis mine)

Initially, the focus of the organization was to continue the vision - to change NEA's position on abortion. Though our primary purpose remains the same, our focus has changed since our incorporation in 1994. Today, Teachers Saving Children® Inc. - National carries out its commitment to establishing a respect for all human life from conception to natural death

*through networking pro-life educators
*through educating colleagues about the sanctity of life (i.e. "The wonder of Life" exhibit, newsletters, speaking events, etc.)
*through being a resource for educators, especially in the fields of health, science, and child development
*through educating colleagues about their options regarding union membership

The governing body of Teachers Saving Children®-National consists of a Board of Trustees with voting members of no more than 15 members and no less than 7 members, plus the Executive Director who is a non-voting member. Come and be a voice with us, sometimes the only voice, in letting America know that the grassroots educator loves children - even the preborn.
